October 6, 2026 — Carnival Cruise Line has pushed Carnival Spirit’s next Seattle departure back one day, to Friday, October 9, and dropped Cabo San Lucas from the ship’s Panama Canal repositioning cruise to Mobile after a repair in Hawaii ran long.

Carnival Cruise Line, a Carnival Corporation brand, told booked guests the ship needed extra time in Hawaii on Saturday, October 3, for a repair. The line has not said what was repaired or at which port. Carnival Spirit now reaches Seattle a day late, so the following cruise leaves a day late and runs 15 nights instead of 16.

What changed

Item Original Now
Seattle departure Thursday, October 8, 2026 Friday, October 9, 2026
Cruise length (Seattle to Mobile) 16 nights 15 nights
Cabo San Lucas October 13, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Cancelled
Puntarenas, Costa Rica October 17, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Unchanged
Panama Canal transit October 19 Unchanged
Revised Seattle boarding times — TBA

Cabo was cut so the ship keeps its reserved canal transit slot. The report does not give revised boarding times or restate the Mobile arrival date, so check Carnival’s emails for both.

Compensation for the shortened cruise

  • A one-day pro-rated refund of the cruise fare.
  • A $250 onboard credit per stateroom.
  • A full refund of pre-paid Cabo San Lucas excursions, posted by October 10.
  • One-day pro-rated refunds of drinks packages, Wi-Fi and gratuities, posted by October 10.
  • Up to $200 per person toward airfare change fees, with receipts.
  • Automatic flight adjustments for guests who booked air through Carnival’s Fly2Fun program.

Also: Hawaii storm relief

Carnival Corporation has donated $25,000 to Direct Relief on behalf of Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises for Hawaii’s recovery from Hurricane Nolo and earlier storms this year. The group’s ships make more than 200 calls a year at five Hawaiian ports, carrying about 528,000 guests. No itinerary changes came with the announcement.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Move your Seattle flight by a day. Embarkation is now Friday, October 9. If you fly standby into Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), still plan to arrive the day before, which is now Thursday, October 8.
  • Keep receipts. The airfare reimbursement covers change fees on paid tickets up to $200 per person. The report does not mention reimbursement for an extra hotel night.
  • Plan the Mobile end carefully. Mobile has limited airline service, so many cruisers fly home from Pensacola or New Orleans instead. Confirm the arrival date with Carnival before listing for flights.
  • Refunds are automatic. The fare refund, onboard credit and package refunds do not need to be requested.
  • Interline rates: nothing in the announcement changes travel-industry rates or eligibility.
