October 6, 2026 — Update to our October 5 story. The Vy train drivers’ strike continued on Tuesday with no settlement and no government intervention. The union says it is drafting proposals, but no meetings are scheduled.

What changed

  • Who is out: 72 Vy drivers from the union Norsk Lokomotivførerforbund are on strike after Monday’s escalation. Most are based in Hamar, Kongsvinger and Oslo.
  • Tuesday’s cancellations: Vy’s strike page showed every R14 departure between Asker and Kongsvinger cancelled (42 trains), and 31 RE10 departures between Drammen and Lillehammer cancelled, about 72% of the line.
  • Other lines: L1, L2, R12 to R23 and RE10 to RE30 are affected to varying degrees.
  • Talks: Union leader Rolf Ringdal said there was no contact on Monday. The union is working on proposals that could lead to a solution. Employer body Spekter says it is waiting for the union’s answer to its latest offer.
  • Duration: Ringdal says the strike could last days or several weeks. End date TBA.
  • Running total: Adresseavisen reports more than 650 departures cancelled in three days.

What Vy tells passengers

  • Vy’s journey planner is updated through October 9.
  • There is no replacement transport.
  • Vy’s own travel guarantee does not apply during the strike, but statutory rail passenger rights do.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Oslo Airport: If you rely on a Vy regional train to reach the airport, check the journey planner on the day and allow extra time.
  • Have a backup. Airport coaches and taxis are the alternatives if your train is cancelled. Only a few Flytoget drivers are on strike.
  • Trips north of Oslo toward Hamar and Lillehammer and east toward Kongsvinger are hardest hit. Consider a bus or a rental car.
  • Flying standby home? Travel to the airport earlier than usual. A missed standby flight can cost a day.
  • Keep receipts if a cancelled train forces you onto other transport, and ask Vy about your statutory rights.
