October 7, 2026 — Holland America Line will take over P&O Cruises’ Arcadia in 2029, lifting its fleet from 11 ships to 12. The Carnival Corporation brand announced the transfer on October 6. Cruise.Blog calls it the line’s first fleet addition in eight years.

Arcadia is a Vista-class ship that Holland America itself ordered in 2000. Carnival diverted it to P&O during construction, and it has sailed for the British line since 2005. Its sisters are Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Noordam. The ship adds room for more than 2,000 guests.

Key dates

Event Date
Arcadia’s final P&O sailing August 21, 2029
Arcadia enters Holland America service Late 2029 (exact date TBA)
New name TBA; the line says a traditional Dutch name is likely
Itineraries and homeport TBA
Oosterdam debuts its Evolution refit Fall 2027 (October 31, 2027, per Travel Weekly)
Zuiderdam debuts its Evolution refit April 2028

Arcadia will get the line’s Holland America Evolution treatment before it sails. That $500 million program was announced in April 2026. On Oosterdam and Zuiderdam it brings a Grand Dutch Café, a renovated Ocean Bar, Bridgeview Suites and Solo Verandah cabins. Arcadia’s own features will be set out in the coming months.

President Beth Bodensteiner called the ship “a natural fit” as a Vista-class vessel and said more fleet investment is coming.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Nothing to book yet. No itineraries, homeport or on-sale date have been published for the ship.
  • More capacity usually helps late bookers. A twelfth ship adds more than 2,000 berths. Holland America has not said how that affects travel-industry rates.
  • Solo travelers: the Evolution refits add Solo Verandah cabins on Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. Whether Arcadia gets them is TBA.
  • This follows yesterday’s Alaska news. The six-ship 2027 Alaska program is unchanged by this announcement.
