October 8, 2026 — Delta has issued a travel waiver for nine Gulf Coast airports as Hurricane Isaias heads for the Florida Panhandle, with landfall forecast late Friday or early Saturday. Delta also reports third-quarter results on Friday, October 9.
What happened
Hurricane Isaias. Isaias became a Category 1 hurricane on the night of October 7, with 75 mph winds. Forecasters expect landfall near the Florida Panhandle, possibly around Pensacola, late on October 9 or early on October 10 as a Category 1 or 2 storm. Hurricane warnings run from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay–Gulf county line in Florida.
Delta’s waiver covers travel on October 9 and 10. Other airlines have issued their own. No cancellation totals had been published when this was written.
| Airline | Airports covered | Travel dates |
|---|---|---|
| Delta (DL) | Birmingham, Columbus, Destin–Fort Walton Beach, Dothan, Gulfport–Biloxi, Mobile, Montgomery, Panama City, Pensacola | October 9–10 |
| American (AA) | Destin–Fort Walton Beach, Gulfport–Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans, Panama City, Pensacola, Tampa | October 9–10 |
| United (UA) | Panama City, Gulfport–Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans, Pensacola | October 9–10 |
| Southwest (WN) | Destin–Fort Walton Beach, New Orleans, Panama City Beach, Pensacola | October 8–10 |
Southwest allows rebooking within 14 days of the original travel date. For the others, check each airline’s advisory for the rebooking deadline.
Earnings. Delta reports September-quarter results before the market opens on October 9. Its own guidance is adjusted earnings of $2.00 to $2.50 a share. 24/7 Wall St. reports that analysts’ average estimate has slipped to $1.88, below that range, with fuel costs the main concern.
Miami lawsuit. A former Delta ground employee at Miami has filed a discrimination lawsuit saying she and 14 colleagues were fired after an internal investigation into possible fraud on Miami–Havana flights. According to the reports, the review looked at gate seat assignments, excess-baggage payments and ticket sales through travel agencies. These are allegations in a complaint; the reports carry no response from Delta.
What it means for non-revs
- Avoid non-revving through the Panhandle and Mobile on October 9 and 10. Expect cancellations at Pensacola, Destin–Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, Mobile and Gulfport–Biloxi.
- The days either side will be full. Waiver passengers move to flights before the storm and in the days after it, which takes the seats standby travellers rely on.
- Atlanta connections to the Gulf Coast will back up first; pick routings that avoid the region.
- Watch Friday’s earnings call for any word on winter capacity, which drives seat availability.
- The Miami case is a reminder that seat assignments, baggage fees and gifts from customers are areas where airline staff are closely audited.
