MOBILE, Ala., Oct. 9, 2026 — More than 60% of Friday’s flights at Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) have been cancelled as Hurricane Isaias heads for a landfall that forecasters place between Mobile Bay and the Florida Panhandle. No formal airport closure had been reported in the coverage we reviewed.

What is happening

  • Cancellations: FlightAware data cited by the Associated Press shows more than 60% of Friday, October 9 flights at MOB cancelled.
  • Airport closure: none reported so far. Closure and reopening times, if any: TBA.
  • The storm: Isaias is a Category 3 hurricane with 120 mph winds. Landfall is forecast late Friday between Mobile Bay, Alabama, and Choctawhatchee Bay, Florida.
  • Warnings: a hurricane warning runs from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the western Florida Panhandle, which includes the Mobile area. Storm surge of 5 to 7 feet is forecast from Dauphin Island eastward.
  • Evacuations: Alabama’s governor ordered non-residents to leave Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Dauphin Island.
  • Rail is out too: Amtrak cancelled its Mardi Gras Service trains between New Orleans and Mobile, with full service expected back on Monday, October 12, The Weather Channel reports.
  • After landfall: the storm is forecast to weaken to a tropical storm by Saturday afternoon as it tracks inland along the Alabama-Mississippi line.

Airline waivers covering MOB

Airline Travel dates covered Key terms
Delta October 9–10 Rebook and travel by October 13; tickets issued by October 7
American October 9–10 All fare classes; tickets bought by October 6
United October 9–10 Rebooking deadline: TBA

What it means for non-revs

  • Treat MOB as closed for planning purposes on Friday and Saturday. Most of Friday’s schedule is gone, and the forecast track passes close by overnight.
  • Any flight still operating will be oversold with people leaving. Standby odds on the few remaining departures are poor.
  • Saturday’s schedule depends on the aircraft and crews that never arrived Friday night. Check that the inbound flight operated before you list on a morning departure.
  • Pensacola is not a fallback. PNS closed at 10 a.m. Friday and may not reopen until Sunday.
  • Expect full flights into next week. Delta’s waiver lets revenue passengers rebook through October 13.
  • Do not plan on the train. Amtrak’s New Orleans–Mobile service is cancelled through the weekend.
