MANZANILLO, Mexico, Oct. 10, 2026 — Airlines have cancelled every commercial flight at Manzanillo’s Playa de Oro International Airport (ZLO) for Saturday as Category 4 Hurricane Simon approaches the coast of Colima and Jalisco. No date has been given for flights to resume.

What is happening

  • All Saturday flights cancelled: airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) said on Friday that all commercial operations planned for Saturday, October 10, were cancelled. Airlines made the decision as a precaution, GAP said.
  • The airport is not formally closed. General aviation and Mexican Navy flights may continue if the weather allows, El Informador reports.
  • Restart date: TBA. GAP said it will update the airport’s status as conditions change.
  • The storm: at 6 a.m. CST Saturday the U.S. National Hurricane Center put Simon about 120 miles south-southwest of Manzanillo with 150 mph winds, moving north at 5 mph. The center is expected near or just inland of the coast early Sunday.
  • Rain: 10 to 20 inches, with isolated totals near 30 inches, across parts of Michoacan, Colima, Jalisco and Nayarit through Sunday. The hurricane center warns of life-threatening flooding and mudslides.

Airline waivers

  • Alaska Airlines: covers Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan tickets bought by October 8 for travel October 8–11. New travel must be October 8–14.
  • Aeromexico: its storm policy covers Manzanillo, Colima and Puerto Vallarta, with rebooked travel to be completed by October 14, UnoTV reports.
  • Other carriers: TBA.

What it means for non-revs

  • No standby options at ZLO on Saturday. There are no commercial flights to list on.
  • Sunday is unlikely too. Landfall is forecast for early Sunday and no restart date exists. Plan on Monday at the earliest, and only after GAP or your airline confirms flights.
  • Puerto Vallarta is not a workaround. PVR is under the same hurricane warning and Volaris has cancelled all its Sunday flights there.
  • Expect the first flights back to be full of rebooked revenue passengers. Alaska’s waiver alone runs to October 14.
  • If you are in the area now: follow local shelter instructions and do not travel to the airport.
