October 12, 2026 — Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas reached Cape Liberty, New Jersey, three and a half hours late on Sunday, October 11, after a passenger was taken off the ship for urgent medical care. The delay pushed back boarding for the next sailing and shortens its first port call.

What happened

A guest on the 7-night sailing that left Cape Liberty on October 4 needed urgent medical attention and was disembarked. Royal Caribbean did not say where or give the guest’s condition; a passenger’s Facebook post cited by Cruise Hive put the stop in Nassau. The ship then arrived home at 9:30 a.m. instead of 6:00 a.m.

This is the second time in about a month: on September 20, 2026, another Oasis of the Seas sailing came back roughly eight hours late after two guests were taken ashore for medical care in Nassau.

Changes for the October 11 sailing

Item Original Revised
Return of October 4 sailing to Cape Liberty 6:00 a.m., October 11 9:30 a.m., October 11
Earliest check-in, October 11 10:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m. (later groups assigned times up to 4:00 p.m.)
Departure from Cape Liberty 3:00 p.m. Later; new time not published (TBA)
Port Canaveral arrival 12:30 p.m. 2:30 p.m.
Port Canaveral departure 8:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. (unchanged, so two hours less in port)
Return to Cape Liberty October 18, 2026 October 18, 2026 (no change announced)

The rest of the itinerary, Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau, was not changed. Royal Caribbean told boarding guests that the terminal and garage would stay closed to them until their window, because the previous guests were disembarking until about 1:00 p.m. Its notice was blunt: “Please do not arrive prior to your assigned time below.”

Compensation

  • Guests on the October 4 sailing can claim eligible flight and transport change fees of up to $200 per person on domestic travel or $400 per person on international travel.
  • Flights booked through Flights by Royal are adjusted automatically if needed.
  • Excursions affected on the next voyage will be rescheduled where possible; any that cannot be are cancelled and refunded as onboard credit, with unused refundable amounts returned to the card on file within 14 business days after the cruise.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Cape Liberty is in Bayonne, New Jersey. Newark (EWR) is the nearest major airport, with JFK and LaGuardia as alternatives.
  • On disembarkation day, avoid morning flights. A late ship plus a long customs line can wipe out a tight connection; an afternoon or evening departure gives you room, and if you are flying standby, list on more than one flight.
  • On embarkation day, a medical diversion on the previous sailing can push your check-in time back by hours. Watch the Royal Caribbean app and your email the night before and the morning of sailing, and do not head to the terminal before your assigned time.
  • If you booked your own flights and a late return costs you change fees, keep every receipt; the reimbursement offered here covered eligible fees for guests who had to change travel.
  • No travel-industry or interline rate changes were part of this news.
