October 14, 2026 — Oriental Land Co., which runs Tokyo Disney Resort under license from Disney, has named its first cruise ship Disney Imagination. The ship will sail from Tokyo under the Disney Cruise Line Japan brand starting in spring 2029.

The details

  • Ship: Disney Imagination, a Wish-class ship for about 2,500 guests, being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany (ordered in mid-2024). Delivery date: TBA.
  • Operator: Oriental Land Co. and Oriental Land Cruise Co., under the Disney Cruise Line Japan brand that launched earlier in 2026.
  • Homeport: Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.
  • Debut: Spring 2029. Exact first sailing date, itineraries and booking opening date: TBA.
  • On board: about 30 food and drink venues, including three main dining rooms; a main theater seating more than 1,300; shops, children’s programs and adults-only areas. Ariel from The Little Mermaid will be the character on the stern.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Tokyo has two major airports, Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT). Compare ground transfer times to Tokyo International Cruise Terminal before choosing one.
  • Itineraries and booking dates have not been announced. Watch for whether the line sells cruises outside Japan before planning a trip.
  • No travel-industry or interline rate information was mentioned.
