October 15, 2026 — Air India has three developments this week. A Frankfurt–Delhi flight diverted to Jaipur after a hijack code was transmitted. The airline has dropped two more European routes for the winter. And from today, its codeshare flights with Singapore Airlines can be booked on their own.

Flight AI-2030 diverts after a hijack alert

On Wednesday morning, October 14, Ahmedabad air traffic control briefly received a “Squawk 7500” hijack code from Air India flight AI-2030, which was flying from Frankfurt to Delhi. The aircraft diverted to Jaipur, landed at about 9:45 a.m. and was parked in an isolation bay. Passengers were taken off, screened again and then put back on the aircraft to continue to Delhi.

The accounts do not agree. Police sources say the pilot pressed the code by accident. The pilot denies sending it and has reported a technical problem with the aircraft. India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has opened an investigation, and engineers were called in to inspect the aircraft. The aircraft type and number of passengers were not reported.

Winter cuts in Europe

Route Frequency Change
Delhi–Vienna 4 weekly Withdrawn from about October 31. AeroRoutes lists November 1 as the first cancelled departure.
Delhi–Birmingham 3 weekly Suspended from early November; first cancelled departure November 4
Amritsar–Birmingham 3 weekly Possible winter pause reported; still bookable. Status TBA.
Delhi–Copenhagen — Cancelled from October 25
Amritsar–London Gatwick — Cancelled from October 25

Reports point to higher fuel prices and longer routings caused by Pakistani airspace restrictions and the Middle East conflict. Air India has not published a statement explaining each suspension, and Travel And Tour World could not find an official confirmation. Treat the dates above as reported, and check them against your own booking.

Singapore Airlines codeshare: standalone bookings from today

From October 15, Air India and Singapore Airlines no longer require a flight operated by the selling airline when you book the partner’s codeshare flights. Eligible flights operated by either airline can now be booked on their own through the other carrier’s website, app or travel agents. The change covers 126 weekly flights between Singapore and eight Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Schedules are not affected.

What it means for non-revs

  • Fewer seats to Europe this winter. Once Vienna, Birmingham, Copenhagen and Amritsar–Gatwick stop, Air India passengers bound for Europe will be pushed onto the remaining London, Frankfurt, Paris and other flights. Expect higher loads on those flights from late October, especially around Diwali and the year-end holidays.
  • If you were counting on Vienna or Birmingham, plan to connect through a European hub on a partner or interline carrier instead. Confirm your ZED or interline eligibility on that carrier before you go.
  • The Jaipur diversion was a one-off, but it shows that a security diversion can strand you at an unplanned airport for hours. Carry essentials in your cabin bag, as non-revs always should.
  • Singapore–India: the codeshare change affects how tickets are sold, not how many seats there are. Sources do not mention any change to employee or partner travel rules (TBA).
