October 22, 2026 — Meliá is relaunching its beachfront hotel on Cozumel’s north shore as ZEL Cozumel, the Rafael Nadal–backed ZEL brand’s first all-inclusive resort in Mexico. The resort opens November 5.
What is happening
The former Meliá Cozumel is being converted to the ZEL brand. ZEL is the lifestyle brand Meliá Hotels International created with tennis champion Rafael Nadal. According to Caribbean Journal, the resort will run on an all-inclusive plan built around beach time, wellness and Mediterranean-style dining. It sits on Playa Santa Pilar along the island’s northern coastal road. Meliá calls Playa Santa Pilar the longest hotel beach on Cozumel.

What it means for airline travelers
- Getting there: The report puts Cozumel’s airport (CZM) about 4.2 miles from the resort. The town center and ferry terminal are about 3.4 miles away. If you fly into Cancún (CUN) instead, you can reach Cozumel by ferry from Playa del Carmen. Allow for the drive to Playa and the crossing. Before you count on a nonstop to CZM, check current schedules.
- Brand-new conversion: The first weeks after a rebrand can bring service teething problems and facilities that aren’t quite finished. If your dates are flexible, aim for a few weeks after November 5.
- Old bookings: If you booked under the Meliá Cozumel name, check that your reservation, meal plan and rate carried over to the new ZEL all-inclusive setup.
- Rates: The announcement didn’t mention any travel-industry or airline-employee rate. Check whatever programs you normally use with Meliá.
