October 22, 2026 — Today’s nationwide strike on regional buses and trains in the Netherlands has been called off, and services are running on normal timetables. Unions have paused further strikes for two weeks while talks resume.
What changed
- Strike cancelled: The one-day strike planned for Thursday, October 22, was called off on Wednesday after the employers’ group VWOV sent a new proposal, NL Times reported.
- Two-week truce: The FNV union suspended further action for two weeks. Before the truce, unions had planned one-day strikes every week until Christmas. Those are on hold, but FNV says it will strike again if talks fail.
- What employers offered: VWOV withdrew proposals that would have worsened schedules, offered to bring forward a planned pay rise, and made commitments for older employees, according to the CNV union.
- Who is covered: The labor agreement covers more than 13,000 workers, mostly bus drivers. Arriva, EBS, Qbuzz, Keolis, Transdev (including U-OV, Connexxion and Hermes) and RET’s regional services are running their regular timetables, journey planner 9292 said.
What it means for airline travelers
- Regional buses and trains are running normally today, so connections from the airport to towns served by regional operators should work as usual.
- Watch early November. The truce runs about two weeks. If talks break down, weekly strikes could restart, so check 9292 or your operator before trips in November.
