October 22, 2026 — Italy faces a busy November for transport strikes, including a national general strike on November 20–21 and air traffic control walkouts on November 6, 21 and 22. Here is the calendar published by The Local Italy.

November strike calendar

Date Who / where Hours
Fri, Nov 6 Air traffic control (ENAV), Bari 1 p.m.–5 p.m.
Fri, Nov 13 Milan public transit (buses, trams, Metro), called by Cobas 24 hours from 8:45 a.m.; guaranteed service 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
Fri, Nov 13 Venice airport bus link (Atvo) 24 hours
Fri, Nov 13 Local buses in Monza; regional buses around Trezzo, near Milan From 9 a.m. (Monza) and 8:45 a.m. (Trezzo), with guaranteed service windows
Sat, Nov 14 Bari local buses (Amtab) Full day
Mon, Nov 16 Naples rail (Anm) 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
Fri, Nov 20 – Sat, Nov 21 National general strike (CGIL), public and private sectors, including national rail 9 p.m. Nov 20 to 8 p.m. Nov 21; local transport in many cities all day Saturday
Sat, Nov 21 Air traffic control nationwide, part of the general strike 1 p.m.–5 p.m.
Sun, Nov 22 Air traffic control (ENAV), Milan Malpensa 24 hours from midnight
Sun, Nov 22 Security staff, Venice Marco Polo airport Hours TBA

Local operators taking part in the November 20–21 general strike include GTT (Turin), Trentino Trasporti, EAV (Naples), Ferrotramviaria (Bari) and TFT rail lines in Tuscany, with regional disruption also expected in South Tyrol, Abruzzo, Calabria and Puglia. The Local says it is unclear how much the Bari air traffic stoppage on November 6 will affect flights.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Avoid flying standby on the afternoon of November 21. A nationwide air traffic control stoppage from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on top of a general strike leaves little room if your flight is cancelled, and trains will be hit too.
  • Malpensa on November 22: A 24-hour local air traffic control strike could disrupt flights all day. Linate or Bergamo may be worth checking as alternatives.
  • Getting into Venice on November 13: The Atvo airport bus is out for 24 hours, so plan on a water bus, taxi or other bus line.
  • Milan on November 13: Metro, trams and buses stop from 8:45 a.m. except during the 3 p.m.–6 p.m. guaranteed window.
  • Italian strikes are often called off or shortened at the last minute. Check the operator’s website the day before.
