October 23, 2026 — Fregate Island, the private-island resort in the Seychelles that has been closed since February 2022, is now expected to welcome guests again toward the end of 2026, after a full rebuild of its villas and a long ecological restoration. Earlier announcements had pointed to an October 2026 return; no exact reopening date has been published (TBA).
What is happening
Tourism Update reported on October 22 that the island is set to reopen toward the end of this year with 17 villas and estates. When the rebuild was first announced in October 2025, Breaking Travel News said the resort would return in autumn 2026 with 14 newly built private pool villas and three estates, including The Owner’s Estate (the former Banyan Hill Estate), which has its own helipad, spa and cinema. The island is independently owned and operated, and its conservation work is run through the Fregate Island Foundation.

Conservation is a big part of the stay: about 90% of the island is protected, it is home to more than 3,000 free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises, and its beaches host roughly 1% of the world’s nesting hawksbill turtles, according to Tourism Update.
What it means for airline travelers
- Gateway: Fregate transfers start from Mahé, home to Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). Wikipedia’s current airline list for SEZ shows service from Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar Airways), Addis Ababa (Ethiopian Airlines), Nairobi (Kenya Airways), Mumbai (IndiGo), Frankfurt (Discover Airlines, plus seasonal Condor), seasonal Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) and seasonal Zürich (Edelweiss), along with Air Seychelles routes including Paris–Charles de Gaulle, Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg. Check current schedules before you travel.
- No nonstops from North America: none appear on that list, so plan on connecting through a Gulf, European or African hub, and give yourself a buffer day before the island transfer.
- Don’t book around a fixed date yet: the reopening has moved from “October” to “toward the end of 2026” with no confirmed day, so wait for the resort to confirm before locking in flights.
- Rates: neither report mentions room rates, travel-industry or airline-employee rates.
