October 26, 2026 — Disney Cruise Line guests visiting Castaway Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, may find the Pelican Plunge waterslide platform closed: the line says it will be closed intermittently for refurbishment “over the coming weeks.”
What’s happening
Pelican Plunge is the floating platform in the Castaway Cay lagoon with two waterslides (one open, one an enclosed tunnel), a big dump bucket and water cannons. It was closed for refurbishment in August 2026, reopened before mid-September and was reported open about a week before October 24, but it is closing again on some sailings.
- How long: Disney has not given a date for a full reopening — TBA.
- Why: Disney has not said what the work involves.
- How guests find out: Closures appear in the Navigator app, often only the night before or as the ship reaches the island.
- What’s still available: a smaller play structure in the swimming lagoon, the Spring-a-Leak splash pad, swimming, island tours, sports courts, the Monstro Point whale dig site and shopping. The waterslides on the ships themselves usually stay open on Castaway Cay days.
- When it is open: riders must be at least 38 inches tall and able to swim out to the platform, which has no walkway. Life vests are free.
What it means for airline travelers
- This doesn’t affect flights or sailing dates — but if Pelican Plunge is the highlight for your kids, set expectations before you go and check the Navigator app once you’re aboard.
- Castaway Cay is a beach day either way. The lagoon, splash pad and the ships’ own waterslides remain good backups.
