October 26, 2026 — Lindblad Expeditions says mountaineer Peter Hillary, son of Everest pioneer Sir Edmund Hillary, will sail on three National Geographic-Lindblad expeditions in 2027: two to Alaska in May and a fly-back Antarctica voyage in December.
The voyages
| Expedition | Ship | When |
|---|---|---|
| Alaska’s Inside Passage and Hubbard Glacier | TBA | May 2027 (exact dates TBA) |
| Alaska’s Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and Prince Rupert | TBA | May 2027 (exact dates TBA) |
| Antarctica Direct: Sail and Fly the Drake Passage | National Geographic Explorer | December 2027 (exact dates TBA) |
Hillary, a returning Lindblad guest, will give talks and join guests ashore. He has been on more than 50 mountaineering expeditions, five of them on Everest, has climbed the Seven Summits and has skied to the South Pole. Lindblad CEO Natalya Leahy called him “a longtime friend of Lindblad.”
What it means for airline travelers
- Antarctica Direct crosses the Drake Passage by ship one way and by plane the other. Because a flight is built into the trip, leave slack on both ends of your own airline itinerary.
- Alaska voyages: confirm the embarkation and disembarkation ports with Lindblad before you book flights, and arrive the day before.
- Exact sailing dates have not been published. Wait for them before booking flights.
