October 27, 2026 — WestJet (WS) and Qatar Airways (QR) have turned their decade-old partnership into a two-way codeshare, linking Qatar’s Doha flights at Toronto and Montreal with WestJet’s Canadian network.
What happened
The airlines announced the deal on Monday, October 26, from WestJet’s home base in Calgary.
| Who | What they sell | Where |
|---|---|---|
| WestJet | Its WS code on Qatar Airways flights | Doha–Toronto and Doha–Montreal nonstops (first phase) |
| Qatar Airways | Its QR code on select WestJet flights | From Toronto and Montreal to 11 Canadian destinations, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, St. John’s and Winnipeg |
| WestJet (later phase) | Its WS code beyond Doha | Select Qatar Airways destinations, not yet named |
- Start date: TBA. The release does not say when codeshare tickets go on sale.
- Loyalty: WestJet Rewards members earn on the whole codeshare trip. The release does not say what Qatar Airways Privilege Club members get.
- Travel experience: one ticket, coordinated connections and bags checked through to the final destination.
- More Doha flights: Qatar Airways moved to 14 weekly flights to Canada from October 25, giving both Toronto and Montreal daily service (Montreal went from five to seven a week).
WestJet chief commercial officer John Weatherill pointed to a relationship “that has spanned more than a decade” and said WestJet wants to keep adding global destinations through partners.
What it means for non-revs
- A codeshare is not a staff travel deal. Nothing in the announcement mentions ZED fares or any new employee travel arrangement between the two airlines. Check with your pass bureau before assuming you can list on the partner.
- Connecting banks at YYZ and YUL may fill up. WestJet flights timed to meet the Doha departures will now carry more connecting Qatar passengers. Check loads closely on those flights.
- Daily Doha service helps. With Montreal now daily, there is a backup flight every day from both gateways if you do not clear.
