November 6, 2026 — Low water on the Danube has forced UK travel group Advantage Travel Partnership to postpone a cruise conference that was to be held aboard Riviera Travel’s river ship Riviera Radiance, because the ship could not start and end the trip in Budapest.
What happened
The Latitude Cruise Conference had been planned as a three-night Danube sailing from Budapest, November 14-17, 2026. Advantage and Riviera Travel decided to postpone it. Advantage’s Jonny Peat said the two had “jointly taken the difficult decision to postpone the conference.” A new date in 2027 is TBA.
The conference was a travel-trade event, not a public sailing. Riviera Travel has not said whether low water is affecting any of its passenger cruises.
What it means for airline travelers
- Danube cruise this month? Water was too low this week for a ship to start and end a trip in Budapest. Check with your cruise line for itinerary changes, ship swaps or hotel stays before you fly.
- Ask about the low-water policy when you book a European river cruise, and find out what refund or rebooking options apply if the ship cannot sail.
- Fly in a day early to Budapest (BUD) and keep your return flexible. If you are flying standby, a change in where the cruise starts or ends may mean flying into a different city.
- Interline and travel-industry rates: none were mentioned.
