October 1, 2026 — Explora III, the newest ship from MSC Group’s luxury brand Explora Journeys, has reached North America on a 30-night voyage from Hamburg. Its first Caribbean season from Miami starts October 25.
What happened
Explora III (72,810 gross tons, 922 guests), delivered by Fincantieri in July 2026, is sailing a 30-night voyage from Hamburg to New York that visits 20 ports in Germany, Ireland, England, Iceland, Canada and the United States. Stops include Halifax, Charlottetown, Corner Brook, Saguenay, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Portland and Newport. The voyage includes the ship’s first North American itinerary, an 11-night segment from Reykjavík to Quebec City.
What’s next
- Caribbean season: begins October 25, 2026 from PortMiami and runs through early April 2027, with departures from Florida, Puerto Rico and Barbados
- Alaska: May–September 2027 from Vancouver and Seward
- Fleet growth: Explora IV arrives in April 2027, and three more ships are planned through 2028
What it means for airline travelers
- Miami departures: MIA is closest to the port, and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is a common backup for standby travelers.
- San Juan and Barbados departures mean flying to an island. Seats can be scarce in peak winter, so build in a day’s cushion and check how often flights operate from your hub.
- Alaska 2027: Vancouver (YVR) needs a passport. Seward is reached through Anchorage (ANC). Cruises between the two are typically one-way, so plan open-jaw air.
- Interline and industry fares: No change to travel-industry rates or eligibility has been announced.
