Spain: Barcelona Bus Strikes Set for Seven October Days; Vigo Begins Charging a Tourist Tax

October 1, 2026 — Barcelona’s city buses face partial strikes on seven days in October. Separately, the Galician port city of Vigo started charging an overnight tourist tax on October 1.

Barcelona: TMB bus strikes

  • Status: confirmed after staff rejected a pre-agreement. The CGT and UGT unions are behind the action.
  • Dates: October 8, 14, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29.
  • Stoppage times each strike day: 09:00–11:00, 19:00–21:00 and 23:00–01:00.
  • Minimum services: not yet published (TBA).

Vigo: tourist tax from October 1

Accommodation Per person, per night
5-star hotel €2.00
3–4-star hotel €1.60
1–2-star hotel €1.20
Hostels, campsites, apartments, rural lodging €0.80
  • How many nights are charged: only the first two nights until June 30, 2027. From July 1, 2027, up to five nights are charged.
  • Cruise passengers: will pay €1.20 from July 1, 2027.
  • Exempt: minors, among others.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Getting from El Prat on a strike day: the stoppage windows are the same on every strike date. Use Rodalies R2 Nord trains, the L9 Sud metro or a taxi instead of TMB buses.
  • Late arrivals: if your flight lands in the evening, the 23:00–01:00 stoppage may cut night bus service. Plan accordingly.
  • Vigo: expect the tax to be added at check-in or on your hotel bill.
