Animawings Suspends All Flights Through October 24 After Insolvency Filing

October 2, 2026 — Romanian carrier Animawings (A2) has stopped flying entirely until October 24 after asking a Bucharest court for judicial reorganisation, with six of its eight aircraft grounded.

What happened

Animawings filed for insolvency protection at the Bucharest Tribunal on September 30. A day later it cancelled its flights and switched off bookings on its website. The airline’s passenger notice now lists every flight from October 2 through October 24 as suspended.

The carrier says the procedure is a reorganisation, not a liquidation. It plans to restart on October 25 with a reduced winter schedule flown by the aircraft it still has available.

The root of the problem is the fleet. Six Airbus A220-300s, leased since 2024, are grounded with recurring technical faults. That leaves two older Airbus A320s. Reports also point to rising costs, fuel prices and a weak home market, and say the airline’s finances worsened sharply in 2025.

Key dates

Date Event
September 30 Insolvency filing at the Bucharest Tribunal
October 1 Flights cancelled, online bookings disabled
October 2–24 All flights suspended
October 25 Planned restart with a revised winter schedule
Return of the A220s TBA

Passengers are being emailed cancellation notices. Animawings says refunds will follow the applicable legal framework, with rebooking offered where available, and warns that its support team is slower than usual.

What it means for non-revs

  • Take Animawings off your list through October 24. There are no flights to stand by for, so any ZED or ID listing on A2 is unusable.
  • Holding an unused Animawings staff ticket? Ask the pass bureau or ticketing platform that issued it about a refund now. Expect delays while the court process runs.
  • The October 25 restart will be thin. Two A320s cannot replace an eight-aircraft schedule, and the new timetable is not published. Do not plan a trip around it.
  • Other airlines on Romanian routes will fill up. Displaced Animawings customers need seats, so expect tighter loads to and from Bucharest for the next few weeks.
