October 2, 2026 — Oceania Cruises, part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, will keep a ship in the Mediterranean for a full winter for the first time, with Oceania Allura sailing 17 voyages between November 2027 and March 2028.

The winter sailings run nine to 26 days and use Barcelona, Rome, Athens and Istanbul as turnaround ports. They are part of a wider 2027–28 Europe program that also features Insignia, Sirena, Marina and Nautica, with calls at smaller ports such as Gythion, Skiathos, Kotor and Çanakkale and longer stays in Bordeaux and Hamburg. The on-sale date was not stated (TBA).

May 24, 2027 Sirena 9 days, Rome to Istanbul
July 26, 2027 Marina 13 days, Copenhagen to Reykjavik
Sept. 16, 2027 Nautica 10 days, Barcelona to Rome
Dec. 8, 2027 Allura 12 days, Athens to Barcelona

One outlet lists the Sirena sailing as May 27, 2027 rather than May 24; confirm the date with the line.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Winter is the easy season for standby to Europe. Transatlantic loads to Barcelona (BCN), Rome (FCO) and Athens (ATH) are generally lighter from November to March than in summer, though seasonal routes may not operate; check which nonstops run in winter.
  • Most itineraries are one-way, starting and ending in different countries. Line up the return from the disembarkation city before you book.
  • Arrive a day or two early. A missed embarkation in Europe can mean chasing the ship to the next country at your own cost.
  • Interline rates: the announcements do not mention travel-industry rates.
