October 3, 2026 — Update to our October 2 story. The rail strike on Monday, October 12, is now confirmed. The strike notice from the socialist rail union CGSP Cheminots was declared admissible on Friday, La DH reports. It covers the train operator SNCB and the track manager Infrabel.
What changed
- Before: we reported that the October 12 public-sector strike could hit trains. It will.
- Service plan: SNCB will publish an alternative timetable based on the staff available. Publication date TBA. Strike hours TBA.
- Brussels transit: STIB says its metro, tram and bus network will be disrupted on Friday, October 9, and may be disrupted on October 12. It posts a forecast the evening before and confirms the lines running before 06:00 on the day.
What it means for airline travelers
- Brussels Airport by train on October 12: wait for SNCB’s alternative timetable, and have a taxi or airport bus as backup.
- Eurostar and cross-border trains: not named in the reports we read. Check with the operator.
- October 9 in Brussels: expect fewer metros, trams and buses. Check the STIB site that morning.
- Standby travelers: build in extra time on both days. A missed train can mean a missed flight list.
