October 3, 2026 — Update to our October 2 story. Italy’s official strike register shows more local transport strikes over the next two weeks than we listed yesterday. The biggest are a 24-hour strike at Milan’s ATM on Friday, October 9, and a regional general strike in Tuscany on Wednesday, October 14.

Also on the register

  • Today, October 3: the AMT Genoa 24-hour strike is under way, as listed.
  • October 30: a general strike called by USI-CIT. QualityTravel reports that air, rail, local and maritime transport are excluded.
  • Correction to yesterday: the register lists the national general strike on December 4. We gave rail hours starting the evening of December 3; confirm those nearer the date.
  • Still unconfirmed: an air traffic control strike on October 16 shown on some tracking sites is not in the register.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Milan, October 9: plan on taxis or the Malpensa Express for airport runs. Check whether ATM publishes guaranteed hours.
  • Florence and Pisa, October 14: a regional general strike can hit trains, trams and buses. Avoid tight same-day connections.
  • Naples, October 16: the EAV evening strike affects the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii and Sorrento. Travel earlier in the day.
  • Refunds: if a strike cancels your train, ask the operator for a refund or change. Terms depend on the ticket.
  • Standby travelers: add a buffer day around strike dates.
