October 5, 2026 — Update to our October 4 story. Student groups and teacher unions have called a national day of strikes and marches for Tuesday, October 6, in support of the high-school protest movement. It is not a transport strike, and no rail, metro or air traffic control strike notice for that day was found. Separately, Corsica Linea cancelled all its Corsica–Marseille sailings again on Monday, with no restart date.

Tuesday, October 6

  • Who: student unions including the Union syndicale lycéenne, with teacher unions of the FSU federation and CGT Éduc’action calling school staff out on strike. The CGT says its members will join the marches.
  • Scale so far: the education minister said 400 to 500 of France’s roughly 3,600 high schools had classes fully or partly suspended on Monday. More than 160 of 468 public high schools in the Paris region were closed.
  • Paris police: gatherings near 25 Paris high schools were banned through October 5. The Paris march is declared, so the ban does not cover it.
  • Transport: no SNCF or RATP forecast for October 6 was published in the sources we opened, and RATP’s weekly bulletin lists no strike. Expect metro stations and bus routes near the Paris march to close or divert; which ones is TBA.
City Start time Meeting point
Lyon 10:00 Place Bellecour, marching to Place Guichard
Grenoble 10:00 TBA
Marseille 10:30 TBA
Toulouse, Bordeaux, Rennes 11:00 TBA
Paris 14:00 Place de la République; route TBA

Corsica ferries

  • All Corsica Linea crossings between Corsica and Marseille were cancelled on Monday, October 5, local outlet Stampa Paese reported.
  • The strike itself has ended, but the shareholder group has ordered a full stop of operations, Seven Radio reported. A shareholder meeting was scheduled for Monday. Restart date: TBA.
  • The company is contacting passengers by phone and text. Changes are free, and refunds go through the agency that issued the ticket.

Still ahead

  • October 8: the CGT’s strike call at TotalEnergies sites, including about 180 mostly motorway fuel stations, stands. Hours are TBA. No new development was found.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Flights and trains are expected to run on Tuesday, but allow extra time crossing central Paris, Lyon, Marseille and the other march cities from late morning.
  • Stay away from high-school entrances and from the marches. Earlier days of this movement saw fires, vandalism and injuries.
  • For Corsica, do not plan around Corsica Linea this week. Corsica Ferries, La Méridionale and flights are the alternatives, and they will be busy.
  • Driving on October 8? Fill up on October 7.
