Route news for Tuesday, October 6, 2026

American Airlines is the headline today. A weekend schedule update shows the carrier returning to the New York JFK–Seattle market next April with two daily Airbus A321neo flights, while dropping five routes from Phoenix, Miami, Chicago O’Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth as it trims planned growth for next summer. United has also filed a return to Flagstaff, Arizona, from Denver for August 2027, and Lufthansa announced it will go back to Nagoya and add Tokyo Narita flights from Frankfurt next spring.

Everything below was published or filed in the past 24 hours. Where an airline has not released a detail, it is marked TBA.

U.S. carriers

American Airlines — New York (JFK) → Seattle (SEA).
Starts April 6, 2027. Frequency: two daily round trips. Aircraft: Airbus A321neo. Filed flights are AA437 and AA1389 westbound (7:45 a.m. and 5:29 p.m. from JFK) and AA342 and AA1306 eastbound (11:33 a.m. and a 10:38 p.m. red-eye from Seattle). American has not issued a press release; the route surfaced in a weekend schedule filing. Sources disagree on when American last flew it: AeroRoutes and AirlineGeeks say 2019, while Traveling For Miles says 2018.

American Airlines — New York (JFK) → Bozeman (BZN).
Starts June 18, 2027. Frequency: four weekly. Aircraft: Boeing 737 MAX. This replaces American’s once-weekly LaGuardia–Bozeman flight, which moves across town to JFK (see discontinued routes below).

United Airlines (operated by SkyWest) — Denver (DEN) → Flagstaff (FLG). Starts August 10, 2027. Frequency: two daily. Aircraft: CRJ550. United last served Flagstaff in October 2022. The filing lands days after Delta announced its own Salt Lake City–Flagstaff service for June 2027, so the Arizona mountain town goes from one network carrier to three next summer.

Also in American’s update: the seasonal JFK–Calgary (YYC) and JFK–Quebec City (YQB) routes, which debuted this past summer, are scheduled to start earlier in 2027, on June 17. Calgary is filed at three weekly on the Boeing 737 MAX; Quebec City is on the Embraer E175 with frequency TBA.

International

Lufthansa — Frankfurt (FRA) → Nagoya (NGO). Starts March 29, 2027. Frequency: three weekly (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday), seasonal. Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 with the Allegris cabin (28 business, 28 premium economy, 231 economy).

Lufthansa — Frankfurt (FRA) → Tokyo Narita (NRT).
Starts March 28, 2027. Frequency: daily, seasonal. Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 with Allegris. This is in addition to Lufthansa’s existing Tokyo Haneda flights. SWISS will also add up to seven weekly Zurich–Narita flights (start date TBA, aircraft TBA), taking the group to roughly 50 weekly Japan flights in summer 2027.

Eurowings — Berlin (BER) → Baghdad (BGW). Starts December 10, 2026. Frequency: one weekly, rising to two weekly from December 17 to January 7. Aircraft: Airbus A320.

Eurowings — Düsseldorf (DUS) → Baghdad (BGW).
Starts December 14, 2026. Frequency: two weekly, dropping to one weekly from January 7 to February 7. Aircraft: Airbus A320.

Jazeera Airways — Kuwait City (KWI) → Yerevan (EVN).
Starts December 3, 2026. Frequency: two weekly, increasing to three weekly from December 22. Aircraft: TBA. This is a relaunch of a route Jazeera has flown before.

Neos — Milan Malpensa (MXP) → Dubai Al Maktoum (DWC).
Starts December 19, 2026. Frequency: one weekly, seasonal through March 13, 2027. Aircraft: Boeing 787-9.

Neos — Rome Fiumicino (FCO) → Dubai Al Maktoum (DWC).
Starts December 19, 2026. Frequency: one weekly. Aircraft: Boeing 737-800. End date TBA.

Badr Airlines — Khartoum (KRT) → Muscat (MCT). Starts October 26, 2026. Frequency: one weekly. Aircraft: Boeing 737-800.

Airblue — Islamabad (ISB) → Quetta (UET) and Lahore (LHE) → Quetta (UET). Both resume October 26, 2026. Frequency: two weekly from Islamabad, three weekly from Lahore. Aircraft: Airbus A320.

American did not explain the individual cuts. In a statement reported by AirlineGeeks, the carrier said it will “moderate its planned growth next summer.” Nonrevs who commute or lean on these markets should watch for the exact final dates once American loads them for sale.

Royal Jordanian — Amman (AMM) → Karachi (KHI). The airline has pulled a preliminary filing for four weekly flights that had been due to begin March 1, 2027. The service never started, so there is no last day; a new launch date is TBA.
