October 6, 2026 — Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will take both of its luxury ships out of service for drydocks in 2027: Europa 2 in Singapore in January and Europa in Bremerhaven in the fall.
This follows yesterday’s story on the line’s change of managing director. Today’s news is the refit schedule, plus a record port call in England by the expedition ship Hanseatic Spirit.
2027 drydocks
| Ship | Guests | When | Where | Work |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Europa 2 | 500 | January 2027; exact dates TBA | Singapore | New color schemes for about 250 suites; updated atrium and piano bar; refreshed Sakura and Elements restaurants |
| Europa | 400 | Fall 2027; exact dates TBA | Bremerhaven | Scope still being finalized |
After its refit, Europa 2’s spring 2027 season is planned to include first-time calls in Western Australia, Papua New Guinea and Palau. The line did not list any cancelled sailings. Outgoing managing director Isolde Susset summed up the approach as “We change what can be improved.”
Hanseatic Spirit sets an Ipswich record
The 230-guest Hanseatic Spirit became the largest cruise ship to call at the Port of Ipswich, England, on October 3, 2026. The call came during a 13-night voyage from Reykjavik to Hamburg.
What it means for airline travelers
- Singapore in January 2027: voyages on either side of the Europa 2 drydock are likely to begin or end at Singapore (SIN). Confirm dates with the line before listing, since the yard dates are TBA.
- Bremerhaven in fall 2027: Bremen (BRE) and Hamburg (HAM) are the nearest airports for Europa sailings around the refit.
- Mostly German-speaking ships. Check the onboard language of a specific sailing before you book.
- Interline rates: nothing in either report touches travel-industry rates.
