October 6, 2026 — The owner of a tour catamaran struck by Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady in Rhodes asked a Greek court to seize the cruise ship, but the vessel sailed on after its insurer posted a guarantee, Cruise Hive reports, citing Greek media.

Scarlet Lady’s mooring lines broke in strong winds and swells late on September 30, 2026, and the ship hit the catamaran King of Rhodes and two smaller boats. No injuries were reported. The ship had been due to leave Rhodes at 6 p.m. that day but stayed because Mykonos, its next port, was closed by weather.

Timeline

Date Event
September 30, 2026 Mooring lines break in Rhodes; Scarlet Lady strikes King of Rhodes and two smaller craft
October 1, 2026 Catamaran owner files for the ship’s seizure, claiming €400,000 (about $448,000)
October 1, 2026, 5 p.m. Ship departs Rhodes after insurer Skuld issues a letter of guarantee
February 23, 2027 Court hearing scheduled

The claim covers damage and lost tour revenue. Virgin Voyages had not responded to Cruise Hive by publication. No change to later Scarlet Lady sailings has been announced.

Virgin confirmed that Brilliant Lady’s October 3 sailing from Los Angeles replaced Cabo San Lucas with Ensenada because swells left by Hurricane Rachel made tendering unsafe. The Mazatlán call moved about two hours later, to 11 a.m.–8 p.m., and Puerto Vallarta was unchanged. Cabo excursions booked through Virgin are refunded in full to the original form of payment.

What it means for airline travelers

  • No flight changes are needed. Scarlet Lady’s schedule after Rhodes is unaffected by the court case.
  • Weather can reshuffle Greek island calls. Mykonos closed and the Rhodes stay ran a day long. Do not book independent flights or ferries out of a mid-cruise port.
  • Tender ports are the first to go. Cabo San Lucas is a tender port and was dropped on short notice. Book excursions through the line if you want automatic refunds.
  • Interline rates: neither item affects travel-industry rates or eligibility.
