October 8, 2026 — Carnival Cruise Line has put guests on six ships on notice as Hurricane Isaias crosses the Gulf toward a landfall on the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday. As of Thursday morning the line had not confirmed any itinerary change.
Carnival Cruise Line, a Carnival Corporation brand, is tracking 12 sailings from Galveston, New Orleans and Tampa, Cruise Hive reported early on October 8. Guests already at sea received letters in their cabins and booked guests received text messages. The text sent to guests on the October 10 Carnival Breeze sailing read: “At present, there are no changes to our plans.”
Sailings Carnival is monitoring
| Ship | Homeport | Departures being watched |
|---|---|---|
| Carnival Breeze | Galveston | October 5 and October 10 |
| Carnival Dream | Galveston | October 3 and October 10 |
| Carnival Jubilee | Galveston | October 3 and October 11 |
| Carnival Liberty | New Orleans | October 4 and October 11 |
| Carnival Valor | New Orleans | October 3 and October 8 |
| Carnival Paradise | Tampa | October 4 and October 8 |
Carnival Valor was due back in New Orleans on Thursday morning, October 8, as scheduled after a five-night Western Caribbean cruise. Cruise Hive suggested the ship’s October 8 departure could be the first sailing to see a change, but that is the outlet’s reading and not a Carnival statement. A letter dated October 7 from Carnival Dream’s captain told guests the ship was following the storm with Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami and had no adjustment to make at that point. Carnival has not published compensation, refund or rebooking terms because nothing has been changed.
Where the storm stands
The National Hurricane Center’s 10 a.m. CDT advisory on October 8 put Isaias about 380 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River with sustained winds of 85 mph, moving east-northeast at 10 mph. The center expects more strengthening through early Friday, a turn to the northeast and then north, and landfall on the northern Gulf Coast late Friday, October 9, or early Saturday, October 10.
- Hurricane Warning: Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County line in Florida.
- Tropical Storm Warning: the Jefferson/Plaquemines Parish line in Louisiana to west of Ocean Springs, and from the Bay/Gulf County line east to the Aucilla River, Florida.
- Storm Surge Warning: the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Suwannee River, Florida, with 5 to 7 feet possible from Ocean Springs to Indian Pass and in Mobile Bay.
The forecast track runs east of New Orleans and well east of Galveston. Cruise Hive noted that Mobile, which sits inside the hurricane warning, has no cruise departures until later in October. Travel Market Report, citing a ship-tracking service, said ships of other lines sailing the Gulf could also be affected but reported no confirmed changes or port closures as of October 7.

Carnival Miracle opened the Panama Canal’s 2026–27 cruise season on October 7 with a northbound transit that began at Miraflores Locks, Seatrade Cruise News reported. The ship is on a 16-day repositioning voyage from Seattle. The canal authority has more than 220 cruise transits scheduled between October and May.
What it means for airline travelers
- Expect flight disruption before cruise disruption. Travel Market Report expects cancellations and delays from Friday at Pensacola (PNS), Mobile (MOB), Destin–Fort Walton Beach (VPS), Gulfport (GPT) and New Orleans (MSY). No major U.S. airline had issued a weather waiver when it published on October 7, so check your carrier before you list.
- New Orleans sailings on October 11: Carnival Liberty guests flying standby into MSY should plan to arrive well ahead of the storm or after it clears. Friday night and Saturday are the riskiest hours for seats and for operations.
- Galveston sailings on October 10 and 11: Houston’s airports (IAH and HOU) are outside the warning area, but flights connecting through the central Gulf Coast may not be. A day-early arrival is the safer plan.
- Do not cancel on your own. Carnival has changed nothing so far, so normal cancellation penalties apply. Watch the phone number and email on your booking, since Carnival is sending updates by text.
- Returning guests: if a ship comes back late, same-day flights home are at risk. Hold off on listing for an early flight until Carnival confirms an arrival time.
