October 9, 2026 — Dutch unions FNV and CNV named Wednesday, October 14, as the first nationwide strike day in regional public transport. If talks stay stuck, they plan one strike day every week until Christmas, with later dates announced at short notice. City transit in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague is not part of the strike.
What is planned
- Who: FNV and CNV, for about 13,000 staff under the regional public transport labour agreement.
- When: All day Wednesday, October 14. Exact start and end times are TBA.
- Operators: Arriva, EBS, Qbuzz, Keolis, Transdev (Connexxion and Hermes) and RET’s regional buses.
- Regional trains: Included. Train staff at Arriva, Qbuzz and Keolis are called out, rail site Treinreiziger reports. Affected lines are TBA.
- Not included: City transit in Amsterdam (GVB), Rotterdam and The Hague. National rail operator NS is not named in the strike call.
- Minimum service: None announced.
- After October 14: One strike day a week until Christmas if there is no deal. Dates are TBA.
- Why: Pay talks with the employers’ group stalled after eight rounds, FNV says.
What it means for airline travelers
- National operator NS is not named in the strike call. Connexxion and EBS regional buses are taking part, NH Nieuws reports.
- Staying outside the big three cities? Check which company runs your bus or train. Arriva, Qbuzz and Keolis rail lines are at risk.
- Later strike days come with little warning. Check the operator’s site the day before any trip through December.
- Have a backup for early check-ins: a taxi or hotel shuttle if your airport bus is run by a striking company.
