October 9, 2026 — Update to our October 8 story. The Norwegian train drivers’ strike continues with no talks scheduled. Operator Vy has now listed cancellations on its Oslo–Gothenburg route through Tuesday, October 13. The union says it may escalate after the weekend if its next proposal is rejected.
What changed
- Oslo–Gothenburg (RE20): Vy’s Swedish site, updated Friday, lists three cancelled trains on Monday, October 12, and three on Tuesday, October 13: trains 387 and 397 southbound and 390 northbound.
- No replacement buses on that route. Vy offers full refunds.
- Talks: None. Norwegian news agency NTB reports the two sides have had no contact since September 18.
- Possible escalation: The drivers’ union NLF is drafting a proposal and wants an answer by the end of the weekend. If employer group Spekter rejects it, the union will consider widening the strike.
- Forced arbitration: Not mentioned in anything we opened.
Still in effect from our earlier story
- Cancelled Vy departures: 199 on Friday, 184 on Saturday and 188 on Sunday, NTB reports.
- Oslo Central Station: Closed to trains from 6 am Saturday, October 10, to 4 am Sunday, October 11. That is for track works, not the strike.
What it means for airline travelers
- Oslo to Gothenburg: Book a long-distance bus or fly. Do not count on the train before Wednesday at the earliest.
- Oslo Airport on Saturday: With Oslo Central closed, confirm how your airport train is running before you leave.
- Watch for news Sunday night or Monday. An escalation would add cancellations at short notice.
- Claim your refund from Vy for any cancelled train.
