October 10, 2026 — French pilot and cabin crew unions suspended a nationwide strike notice late Friday that would have covered every French airline from October 17 through October 21. Separately, the CGT strike at TotalEnergies is now confined to the company’s Normandy refinery, and a rail union has called SNCF staff out for Tuesday, October 13.

This updates our October 9 story on the refinery strike.

Aircrew strike suspended

  • Who. Pilot union SNPL and cabin crew unions SNPNC-FO, UNSA PNC, SNGAF and UNAC.
  • What was planned. A strike from 12:01 am Saturday, October 17, to 11:59 pm Wednesday, October 21, covering flight crews at airlines operating under French law. The dispute is over the crew pension fund.
  • What changed. The unions suspended the notice on Friday evening after government commitments, trade publication TourMaG and the SNPNC-FO union reported. It is suspended, not withdrawn: the unions say they can revive it if a promised decree is not published.
  • Caution. Some websites still list the strike as going ahead. Those pages predate the suspension.

Refinery strike

  • The CGT renewed its strike on Friday at TotalEnergies’ Normandy platform at Gonfreville-l’Orcher and at about 20 service stations.
  • The company says the strike has been lifted at its other refining sites. Two others, Donges and La Mède, were blocked on Thursday.
  • Truck and pipeline fuel shipments from the Normandy site remain blocked. The company says it is supplying stations by other means. No fuel shortage has been reported, and no source mentions any effect on airports.
  • We found no report on whether the strike was renewed again on Saturday.

Rail strike call for Tuesday, October 13

  • The SUD-Rail union has called SNCF staff to strike on Tuesday, October 13, alongside a teachers’ and students’ protest day.
  • Expected impact: TBA. SNCF normally publishes its service forecast by 5 pm the day before, and none had been posted when we checked. Participation by other rail unions or by Paris transit staff was not verified.
  • A student and teacher march is planned in Paris the same day; the route has not been set.

Other dates on the calendar

Tue Oct 13 SUD-Rail call at SNCF; education strike day Impact TBA
Oct 17–21 Nationwide pilot and cabin crew strike Suspended

No air traffic controller strike notice was found. A claim circulating online of a controller strike on October 7–10 is a recycled 2025 story.

What it means for airline travelers

  • October 17–21 trips: the threat to French airline flights has lifted for now. Keep watching until the pension decree is published, because the notice can be reactivated.
  • Tuesday in France: check SNCF Connect on Monday evening for cancelled trains. Check SNCF’s exchange and refund terms for cancelled trains, and have a taxi or bus backup for airport transfers.
  • Driving in Normandy: fill up when you can. Supplies are holding, but some TotalEnergies stations closed on Thursday.
  • Paris on Tuesday: metro stations along the march route may close. Avoid the route once it is announced.
