October 10, 2026 — The two sides in Norway’s train drivers’ strike confirmed on Saturday that they are back in talks, the first sign of movement in a dispute that began on September 18. There is no settlement, and state operator Vy has now posted cancellations through Wednesday, October 14.
This updates our October 9 story.
What changed
- Talks. The union’s leader told broadcaster TV 2 on Saturday morning that the parties are in discussions, business site E24 reported. Employer group Spekter confirmed contact and gave no details.
- No deal, no government intervention. No settlement and no compulsory arbitration had been reported when we checked. The union said earlier in the week it would consider escalating after the weekend if its proposal was rejected. Escalation date: TBA.
- Scale. The strike began with 46 drivers and widened on October 5 to 72. Vy is the only operator with published cancellations.
Cancellations posted by Vy
| Day | Lines affected |

| Wed Oct 14 | L1, L2, R13, R14, R21, R22, R23, RE10, RE11 |
- Oslo Airport. RE10, RE11, R12 and R13 are regional lines that serve Oslo Airport Gardermoen, and all appear on the lists. Vy’s page does not mention the Flytoget airport express.
- Oslo–Gothenburg. Cancellations on this route are still listed only through Tuesday, October 13. Specific departures are cancelled each day.
- No replacement buses. Vy says it is not providing alternative transport during the strike. Cancelled trains disappear from the journey planner. On Oslo–Gothenburg, Vy’s Swedish site promises a full refund on cancelled trains whatever the ticket type.
What it means for airline travelers
- Getting to Oslo Airport: do not rely on a Vy regional train. Check Flytoget’s own site or take the airport coach, and leave extra time.
- Saturday in Oslo: the Oslo Central closure for track work hits all trains, strike or not. Check where your train actually starts.
- Oslo–Gothenburg: check Vy the day before. Look at long-distance bus options if your train is cut.
- Bergen: local lines L4 and R40 are affected from Monday. Check Vy before you travel.
- Keep checking. A deal could end the strike quickly, but timetables take a day or more to recover.
