October 11, 2026 — Hawaiian Airlines plans to eliminate 13 non-union jobs on Oahu as part of its merger with Alaska Airlines, according to a layoff notice filed with the State of Hawaii. The cuts are expected in December 2026 and January 2027.
What happened
KITV Island News reported on October 10 that the notice was filed on October 2 under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. All 13 positions are non-contract roles, meaning they are not covered by a union agreement. Job titles were not given.
| Location | Positions |
|---|---|
| Corporate headquarters, Honolulu | 11 |
| Cargo hangar | 1 |
| Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) | 1 |
About 537 non-contract employees work at the three sites. Alaska Airlines described the cuts as “permanent” and said it does not expect any of the facilities to close. Exact layoff dates within December and January are TBA.
What it means for non-revs
- No effect on flights or loads. These are office and support roles, and no schedule change is attached.
- Affected employees should ask Alaska’s HR team in writing how long pass travel continues after separation and whether any retiree travel eligibility applies. The notice as reported does not address travel benefits.
- Why it matters: merger integration is still removing back-office roles in Honolulu. Other non-contract staff should watch for further WARN filings.
