- Corazul Cruceros: a first season with Buenavista, calling regularly in January and February.
- International visitors: Celebrity Equinox, Seabourn Venture and Azamara Journey. Call dates: TBA.
Port authority CODEBA and local agencies have launched “Operação Navio,” which places 2,000 bilingual agents at the port and main tourist areas. CODEBA director Demétrius Moura said the season will “boost Bahia’s economy.”
What it means for airline travelers
- Most Brazilian-season cruises that call at Salvador start in Santos, the port for São Paulo. Fly into São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) and allow plenty of time for the road transfer down to the coast.
- Long-haul standby to Brazil is tight from December through Carnival. Arrive at least a day early, two in peak weeks.
- Check Brazil’s visa rules for your passport before you list for a flight.
- Salvador (SSA) has its own airport if you want to join or leave a longer voyage there, where the line allows it.
- Fares and travel-industry rates: TBA. MSC’s Brazil sailings are sold mainly in the local market, so ask your interline agency what it can book.
