October 12, 2026 — Norway’s train drivers’ strike at Vy rolls on with no new talks scheduled, and Vy has now posted cancellations through Thursday, October 15. Around 245 departures a day will be cancelled by midweek.

The strike

The Norwegian Locomotive Drivers’ Union (Norsk Lokførerforbund) has had about 72 Vy drivers out since September 18 in a dispute over pay and conditions after the Vy–Flytoget merger. Talks with the employers’ group Spekter broke down on Sunday, October 11. The union has said it could escalate but has not done so. No new negotiation date has been announced.

Cancellations posted by Vy

Day Departures cancelled Main lines hit
Mon, Oct 12 About 180 L1 Spikkestad–Lillestrøm, L2 Stabekk–Ski, R13, R14, R21, R22, R23, RE10 Drammen–Lillehammer
Tue, Oct 13 About 170 Same lines
Wed, Oct 14 About 246 Same lines
Thu, Oct 15 About 245 Same lines, plus some RE11 and RE20 (Oslo–Halden/Gothenburg)

A few trains are also cancelled on Bergen–Arna, Bergen–Myrdal and the Bergen–Oslo line (F4). Vy is not running replacement buses, and its travel guarantee does not apply during the strike.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Arriving at Oslo Gardermoen? Vy’s local and regional lines around Oslo are hit hardest. Check Vy’s strike page before you land, allow extra time, and have a backup such as an airport bus or taxi.
  • For day trips to Drammen, Lillehammer or the Halden/Gothenburg line, check each departure on the day; cancellations are posted only a few days ahead.
  • With no replacement buses and no travel guarantee, budget for a bus or taxi if your train is cancelled, and keep receipts for any insurance claim.
