October 12, 2026 — The remains of Tropical Storm Rachel flooded streets near the Las Vegas Strip overnight, and forecasters warn of flash flooding across the Southwest into Tuesday. In California, a fast-moving brush fire forced evacuations in Santa Clarita. On the Gulf Coast, Pensacola’s airport is back in service after Isaias.

Southwest flooding

  • Heavy rain on the night of October 11–12 flooded roads near the Las Vegas Strip, including behind the LINQ. Koval Lane and Winnick Avenue were closed on Sunday morning and later reopened, and power lines came down in North Las Vegas (FOX5 Las Vegas).
  • The Weather Channel says the flash-flood risk runs Monday into Tuesday from Southern California to Wyoming, including the Los Angeles Basin, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Salt Lake City, with 1 to 5 inches of rain possible. It advises avoiding Southwest national parks until Wednesday.

California: Bike Fire in Santa Clarita

  • The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. on October 11 in the Sand Canyon–Placerita Canyon area and grew to 275 acres, 12% contained, by Sunday evening (MyNewsLA).
  • Evacuation orders were issued for the Sandsouth, Sultus, Woodland and Nadeu areas. Check Los Angeles County updates for the current status of those orders.

Gulf Coast after Isaias

  • Pensacola International Airport reopened for scheduled commercial flights on Sunday, October 11 (FOX10).

What it means for airline travelers

  • Through Tuesday, weather delays are possible at Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Southern California airports. When flying standby, start early in the day and keep a backup flight in mind.
  • Never drive through flooded roads or washes. If you planned a national park visit in the Southwest, wait until Wednesday as the forecasters advise.
  • Driving through Santa Clarita? Check for road closures and evacuation updates before you go.
