October 13, 2026 — easyJet flight crew in Italy will strike for 24 hours on Friday, October 16. Ground staff at Pisa and Florence airports and Poste Air Cargo workers will also walk out the same day.
What happened
- Who: easyJet flight crew in Italy. Wanted in Rome says the action covers cabin crew and pilots. Italy’s transport ministry strike calendar lists the strike as called by USB Lavoro Privato, the private-sector branch of the Unione Sindacale di Base.
- When: Friday, October 16, from 00:00 to 23:59 local time.
- Protected flights: Under Italy’s strike rules, flights scheduled between 07:00 and 10:00 and between 18:00 and 21:00 should operate. Flights outside those windows could be cancelled, depending on how many crew join the strike.
- Why: The dispute is about a company contract renewal signed on September 15. Pilots and flight attendants approved it in a consultation run by other unions. USB says the vote result came out late, that it was not allowed to observe the vote, and that the deal weakens a 13th-month pay entitlement won in court.
- Also on October 16: employees of Toscana Aeroporti, GH Toscana and Consulta at Pisa and Florence airports will strike, as will Poste Air Cargo staff.
- easyJet’s expected schedule: TBA. The report gives no figure for cancellations.
The strike adds to easyJet’s existing cuts. As we reported on October 11, the airline is removing up to 1.4 million seats in total from its winter 2026–27 schedule to limit the cost of high fuel prices.
What it means for non-revs
- Avoid easyJet in Italy on Friday, October 16 if you can. If you have to fly, choose a flight in the protected 07:00–10:00 or 18:00–21:00 windows. Those flights should operate, and they will fill with passengers moved from cancelled flights.
- Pisa and Florence may be slow for every airline that day because of the ground-staff strike. Allow extra time, even if you are not flying easyJet.
- Thursday and Saturday will be busier. Some passengers will move their trips off Friday, so expect fuller flights on the days before and after.
- Check the night before. Italian strikes are sometimes called off or reduced at short notice. Look at easyJet’s flight status and your airport’s departure board before you leave home.
