NUREMBERG, Germany, October 13, 2026 — Nuremberg Airport (NUE) suspended flights for about two hours around midday on Tuesday, October 13, after an arriving Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 from Corfu sent a hijack code and could not be reached by radio. Police found no danger, and flights resumed shortly after 2 p.m. local time.

What happened

  • The alert: the 737, due to land at about 12:15 p.m., transmitted emergency code 7500, the signal for a hijacking, and the pilot could not be reached by radio, t-online reports. Fighter jets escorted it before it landed safely.
  • The response: police closed access roads and deployed special forces. At 1:05 p.m. police said checks found no danger and pointed to a possible cockpit radio fault, according to t-online. Passengers stayed on board until about 1:33 p.m., then were bused to the arrivals hall.
  • Reopening: the airport’s website showed operations suspended until shortly after 2 p.m., after which it said flights were resuming and passengers had not been in danger at any time.
  • Earlier drone reports: between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., three pilots reported a possible drone near the airport. Police found nothing. Six flights were delayed and two arrivals diverted to Cologne and Prague before continuing to Nuremberg. Police said the two incidents were not connected.
  • Flights affected by the midday closure: TBA; no count has been published.

What it means for non-revs

  • The closure is over, but flights held during it may run late for the rest of the day.
  • Allow extra connection time if you are routing through Nuremberg today or connecting from it at a hub such as Frankfurt or Munich.
  • No lasting impact is expected from what police described as a likely radio fault.
