October 14, 2026 — The Augustine in Prague, a 101-room hotel built into a working 13th-century monastery, will reopen as a Kempinski hotel in early 2027 after a major renovation. Kempinski bought the hotel earlier this year.

What is happening

Kempinski Hotels announced on October 13 that the Augustine Hotel Prague will open under its ownership in early 2027. No exact date has been given. The hotel sits in the Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas in the Malá Strana (Lesser Town) district and spreads across seven historic buildings. The monastery is still in use.

Kempinski bought the freehold and the hotel business in spring 2026. Rocco Forte ran the property until 2012. A later owner, GledenInvest, then placed it in Marriott’s Autograph Collection. When the sale was announced, Hospitality-On reported that the hotel would run unbranded (“white-label”) until the end of 2026 while Kempinski refurbishes the guest rooms and public spaces.

What guests will find

  • Rooms: Original vaulted ceilings and timber beams, with custom canopy beds. The named suites include a Presidential Suite honoring Václav Havel, plus the Monastery, Philosopher’s Stone, Charles and Fresco suites. A three-level Tower Suite honoring astronomer Johannes Kepler will follow in a second phase.
  • Food and drink: A restaurant called The Salon and a bar called the Refectory, developed with Gorgeous Group and Russell Sage Studio. The bar plans a daily “Transformation Hour.”
  • Public spaces: Kempinski calls the lobby areas “the living room of the city.” They include a residential-style bar and a table showing work by Czech artisans.
  • Local access: Kempinski’s E.R.A.s (Experience Real Access) program pairs guests with local makers and artists.
  • Design: LDS Design Studio.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Getting there: Prague’s Václav Havel Airport (PRG) is about 15 km from Malá Strana, roughly 25–35 minutes by car depending on traffic.
  • Staying before the relaunch: Through the end of 2026 the hotel is reported to be running unbranded while renovation work goes on. If you book a stay before the Kempinski opening, ask the hotel directly which areas are affected. Don’t count on earning or using chain loyalty points there during this period.
  • Timing: Kempinski has not published a reopening date or opened bookings for the relaunched hotel. If you want to stay in the first months, watch for the date before you plan a trip around it.
  • Rates: None of the announcements mention travel-industry or airline-employee rates. Kempinski has not published room prices.
