October 14, 2026 — Opus Bay, a new resort district on Indonesia’s Batam island, will begin opening in December 2026. It has a 493-room hotel tower, 57 villas and its own ferry terminal, and the developer says the island is about 45 minutes from Singapore by ferry.

What is happening

Developer Tuan Sing Holdings announced on October 14 that Opus Bay Batam, which it calls the island’s first integrated resort, will open in phases. The Marina Bay Ferry Cove terminal and the 35-storey Balmoral Tower open in stages from December 2026. No exact first-guest date has been given. The Cluny Resorts villas, a waterfront shopping promenade, a food hall, a supermarket and a sports park follow by early 2027.

The hotel side runs under a new name, Residence on Opus Bay. The announcement does not name a hotel management company or a link to a chain loyalty program.

What guests will find

  • Tower rooms: Every room has a balcony, kitchenette and washer-dryer, plus an AI-powered digital concierge.
  • Villas: They range from one-bedroom units to a three-bedroom Grand Villa, with buggy service to the promenade and the ferry terminal.
  • Waterfront: The Bay Boulevard Marina Promenade is planned for close to 80 stores and restaurants, a food hall and a supermarket.
  • Sports Park: Three padel courts, four pickleball courts, showers and a food kiosk.
  • Nearby: Batam Hills Golf Resort is within about 10 minutes, and the Barelang Bridge is about 25–30 minutes away.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Via Singapore: The developer describes the trip as about 45 minutes by ferry from Singapore, and the resort’s ferry terminal is about a three-minute walk from the hotel. Singapore’s Batam ferries leave from HarbourFront and Tanah Merah ferry terminals, with crossings of roughly 40–70 minutes depending on the route. The announcement doesn’t say which ferry lines will call at the new Marina Bay Ferry Cove, so check before you plan a connection from Changi.
  • Flying into Batam: Hang Nadim International Airport is about 45 minutes from the resort by road.
  • Early stays: Because the opening is phased, December guests will likely find the tower open but the villas, shops and sports facilities still to come. If those matter to you, wait until early 2027.
  • Rates: Room prices have not been published, and there’s no mention of travel-industry or airline-employee rates.
  • Paperwork: Batam is in Indonesia, so a hop from Singapore is an international crossing. Check Indonesia’s current entry rules for your passport before you go.
