October 17, 2026 — American Airlines plans a new, much larger Admirals Club at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and it will be the first in the Admirals Club network with an outdoor terrace.
What happened
One Mile at a Time reported on October 16 that American will build a new lounge of about 12,000 square feet on the west side of the Austin terminal, nearly double the roughly 6,000-square-foot club there today.
- Design: American’s newer lounge style, with views of downtown Austin and the airfield.
- Layout: separate zones for relaxing, dining, working and recharging.
- Terrace: outdoor space described as the first in the entire Admirals Club network.

What it means for non-revs
- A better place to wait out the standby list. If you hold Admirals Club access, the bigger Austin club should be less crowded during long waits between flights once it opens. Until then, the current club stays open, so nothing changes for now.
- No change to lounge access rules was announced. Whether your pass or employee status gets you in is still governed by American’s existing Admirals Club policy, so check it before you count on the lounge.
- Why it matters to airline folks: the Austin club will introduce a new feature for American, the first outdoor terrace anywhere in the Admirals Club network.
