LAS VEGAS, Nevada — October 19, 2026. A private jet went off the end of a runway and through a perimeter fence at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) late Sunday morning, October 18. The FAA stopped flights bound for Las Vegas for a time, and hundreds of flights were delayed.
What happened
- The incident: At about 11 a.m. local time on Sunday, October 18, a Dassault Falcon 50 business jet left Runway 1L during a takeoff attempt and hit the airport’s perimeter fence. No injuries were reported. No commercial passenger aircraft was involved.
- Runways: Runways 1L and 1R were both closed for inspection. FOX5 Las Vegas’s updated report says the runways have reopened. Exact reopening time: TBA.
- Ground stop: The FAA began a ground stop at 10:46 a.m. Pacific time for flights heading to Las Vegas. It was first expected to end at 12:15 p.m. and was then extended to an estimated 1:15 p.m. News 3 Las Vegas later reported the stop had been lifted. Exact end time: TBA.
- Delays: FAA data showed delays averaging over an hour, and FlightAware counted about 330 to 350 delayed flights. Cancellation totals were not available.
- Cause: Not yet known.
What it means for non-revs
- The ground stop has been lifted, but the knock-on effects may not be over. Missed connections from Sunday’s delays may push extra travelers onto Monday flights out of LAS, so standby lists may be longer than usual.
- Check flight status before you go. The airport told travelers to check with their airlines about flight status.
