AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — October 25, 2026 — Strong westerly winds from Storm Boelo forced Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to cancel about 90 flights on Sunday, October 25. KLM had already cancelled dozens of flights on Friday and Saturday because of the wind.
What happened
- Cancellations: About 90 flights were cancelled on Sunday, according to AFP. Most of the cancelled departures were to European cities, including Paris, Rome and Dublin. Dozens of arrivals were also cancelled or delayed. Schiphol had not published an official total.
- Airlines named: KLM, Lufthansa and easyJet.
- Runways: The westerly winds made some of Schiphol’s runways unusable, and the airport said the weather would limit takeoffs and landings all day.
- Earlier days: KLM cancelled dozens of flights on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24. On October 24, selected KLM flights between Dublin and Amsterdam were among the cancellations reported at Dublin.
- Weather: A code yellow warning stayed in force for coastal and Wadden areas, with gusts up to 100 km/h. The end time is TBA.
- Ground transport: Fallen trees disrupted some Dutch rail lines on Sunday morning, including the line between Lochem and Goor.
A Schiphol spokesperson said travelers “should expect cancellations and delays” and should get flight information from their airline.
What it means for non-revs
- Flights are full of reaccommodated passengers. After three days of KLM cancellations, intra-Europe flights out of AMS will be carrying rebooked passengers. Expect standby lists to be long into Monday, October 26.
- Short-haul routes are hit hardest. The cancellations fell mostly on European routes such as Paris, Rome and Dublin. If you are connecting through AMS to a long-haul flight, check the loads on both legs.
- Consider other routings. Brussels, Düsseldorf or a nonstop that avoids Amsterdam could be easier to get on while AMS catches up. Check those loads too, since the storm also caused cancellations in Ireland.
- Carry on. If your flight is cancelled and you are moved to another flight or routing, a checked bag may not move with you. Travel with a carry-on only if you can.
- Check rail before you go. Some Dutch train lines were disrupted on Sunday morning, so check your route to the airport.
