October 26, 2026 — A Jet2 Boeing 737-800 arriving from Venice ran briefly onto the grass after landing at Birmingham on Sunday afternoon in strong, gusty crosswinds from Storm Boelo. No injuries were reported.

What happened

Item Detail
Flight Jet2 LS1310, Venice (VCE) to Birmingham (BHX)
Date and time Sunday, October 25, 2026, about 14:19 local time
Aircraft Boeing 737-800, reported as G-JZHE
Runway 33
Reported wind 280 degrees at 19 knots, gusting 32 knots
Injuries None reported
Investigation TBA; no investigation or cause has been announced

After touchdown the jet drifted left and its left main landing gear left the paved surface before the crew steered back onto the runway and taxied to the stand, according to reports compiled by MigFlug and AeroXplorer. Jet2 told the BBC the aircraft “temporarily moved off the runway” because of exceptional weather from Storm Boelo, returned to the runway immediately, and that everyone disembarked normally.

Some social media users said the runway was closed briefly afterwards, but Birmingham Airport has not confirmed a closure or how long it lasted. Whether the aircraft was damaged, and when it returned to service, has not been reported (TBA). Storm Boelo also grounded more than 100 flights across the UK over the weekend.

What it means for non-revs

  • Storm season is here. Boelo was the second named storm of the UK season. On windy days, expect diversions, go-arounds and cancellations, and remember that a standby passenger has no protection when an aircraft goes out of position.
  • Check the forecast before you list. If strong winds are forecast at your UK airport, consider going a day earlier or later.
  • No lasting schedule impact. Beyond the weekend’s storm disruption, there is no pass-travel angle to the incident itself. It matters to pilots and operations staff as a reminder of how fast a crosswind landing can turn into a runway excursion.
