October 28, 2026 — Carnival Cruise Line has pulled key Platinum loyalty perks from three sailings that leave this weekend, and it has released its 2028–29 Australia program — the first with only two Carnival ships based there.
Platinum perks suspended on three sailings
Carnival told guests that so many Platinum members are booked on three upcoming voyages that it cannot deliver some of their usual benefits. Platinum guests lose priority embarkation and debarkation, early stateroom access, priority luggage delivery and the Drop and Go luggage service. Priority Guest Services line and phone help may also be unavailable.
| Ship | Departs | Sailing |
|---|---|---|
| Mardi Gras | October 31, 2026 | 7 nights round trip from Port Canaveral (Grand Turk, Amber Cove, RelaxAway Half Moon Cay, Celebration Key); returns November 7 |
| Carnival Legend | November 1, 2026 | 15-night transatlantic, Civitavecchia (Rome) to Tampa |
| Carnival Pride | November 1, 2026 | 14-night southern Caribbean round trip from Baltimore |
Carnival pointed to the number of Platinum guests and, for early cabin access and Drop and Go, to tight turnaround and housekeeping time. Its letter said the changes match “other voyages where we have a very large number of Platinum guests.” No refund or credit was mentioned. Cruise Hive notes it has happened before: three sailings in March 2026, and Carnival Vista and Carnival Sunshine on September 5, days after Carnival Rewards replaced VIFP on September 1.
2028–29 Australia program
With Carnival Adventure and Carnival Luminosa leaving for the U.S. on final repositioning cruises in March 2028, Carnival Splendour and Carnival Encounter will sail year-round from Sydney and Brisbane through mid-2029.
- 112 voyages in all, including 23 three-day cruises from Sydney and Brisbane and 18 short Sydney cruises to Tangalooma on Moreton Island, where the Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club opened in September.
- Highlights include a 13-day Brisbane–New Zealand cruise on Encounter, a 14-day “Mutiny on the Bounty” cruise to Fiji, a Solar Eclipse cruise from Brisbane in July 2028, a Melbourne Cup cruise from Sydney on Splendour in November 2028, and Brisbane–Airlie Beach cruises on Encounter.
- Other sailings focus on the South Pacific, Far North Queensland, New Zealand and Tasmania.
- Splendour goes into a 15-day dry dock in August 2028; guests can sail to Singapore and back around it.
- Booking-open date and fares: TBA (not given in the announcement coverage).
What it means for airline travelers
- Platinum members on these three sailings: without priority boarding or early cabin access, there is no advantage to arriving at the port first thing. Plan on a normal check-in window, and on debarkation day don’t count on getting off early — leave a wider gap before your flight.
- For Mardi Gras out of Port Canaveral, Orlando (MCO) is the usual airport; for Carnival Pride, Baltimore/Washington (BWI); for Carnival Legend’s arrival, Tampa (TPA). The Legend sailing ends a 15-night crossing, so plan an evening or next-day flight out of Tampa.
- Legend guests boarding in Civitavecchia should fly into Rome Fiumicino (FCO) at least a day early — standby seats across the Atlantic can be tight.
- Australia 2028–29: with only Sydney (SYD) and Brisbane (BNE) as Carnival homeports, travelers from Melbourne or Adelaide will need a domestic flight to sail with Carnival.
- No change to travel-industry or interline rates was mentioned.
