November 4, 2026 — Hyatt has signed an agreement for Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort, a planned 140-room private-island resort near Batam, Indonesia. It will be the first Hyatt Regency in Indonesia’s Riau Islands and is expected to open in 2031.

What is happening

Hyatt announced on November 4, 2026 that it has signed a management agreement with PT Citra Buana Prakarsa, a Batam-based developer founded in 1988, for a new resort on Pulau Kapal Besar. The developer already runs resorts on neighboring Nirup Island and has plans for the nearby islands of Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil. The resort is anticipated to open in 2031; construction dates are TBA.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Getting there: Hyatt says guests will clear immigration on Nirup Island and then take a short ferry to Pulau Kapal Besar, with the whole trip from HarbourFront, Singapore, taking about 50 minutes. That makes Singapore the practical gateway; plan on getting from your Singapore flight to the HarbourFront ferry terminal.
  • Watch the ferry schedule: today, Horizon Fast Ferry sails from Singapore to Nirup Island only on certain days, with a single midday departure listed (a Thursday sailing is being added from December 3, 2026). Services may change by 2031, but if they stay limited, arrive in Singapore the day before so a late flight does not cost you the boat.
  • Long lead time: with opening expected in 2031, there is nothing to book yet. This is one to keep in mind for future Singapore trips.
  • Points: as a Hyatt Regency, the resort is expected to be part of World of Hyatt; award category and rates have not been announced.
  • Industry rates: the release does not mention travel-industry or airline-employee rates.
