BUCHAREST, Nov. 7, 2026 — Romanian carrier Animawings, now in court-supervised insolvency, has extended its suspension of all flights through Dec. 31, 2026.
Where things stand
- Animawings filed for insolvency at the Bucharest Tribunal at the end of September; the court approved it on Oct. 28.
- Its last scheduled flight was on Oct. 2, 2026. The suspension was first meant to last about two weeks, was extended to Nov. 15 and now runs to Dec. 31.
- Debts exceed RON 157 million (about US$33 million), owed to 25 creditors including ROMATSA, Bucharest Airports, several cities and banks.
- All six of its leased Airbus A220-300s are grounded because of recurring problems with their Pratt & Whitney engines.
- A court administrator is overseeing a plan to return the airline to profitability. A restart date: TBA.
What it means for non-revs
- Do not plan any travel on Animawings this year.
- The grounding shows how Pratt & Whitney engine problems on the A220 can sideline a small carrier’s entire fleet.
