October 4, 2026 — Volotea (V7, Spain) is cutting 10% to 11% of its winter schedule and putting some French bases into near-hibernation. The cuts follow the low-cost carrier’s pre-insolvency filing in Spain on September 29.

What happened

French outlet Air Journal reported on October 3 that Volotea’s November 2026 to February 2027 programme will be 10% to 11% smaller than last winter’s. The airline’s fleet is going from 44 Airbus aircraft to between 30 and 35.

France takes most of the hit. Volotea blames unstable geopolitics and high fuel prices. It says these are its last schedule changes for 2026 and that no more cancellations will follow this year.

Passengers on cancelled flights can rebook without a fee or take a full refund, Air Journal reports.

Where the cuts land

Airport What changes
Lille (LIL) About 700 flights cancelled, affecting roughly 100,000 passengers. Routes to Spain, Morocco, Greece, Turkey and Italy
Bordeaux (BOD) Fourth-quarter flying down 35% on 2025. Seasonal routes to the Canary Islands, Italy and Central Europe dropped
Brest (BES) Fourth-quarter flights down 30%. Base goes into “hibernation”; Canary Islands routes removed
Rodez (RDZ) Seasonal routes end early, on October 5. Only the Paris public-service route stays
Nantes, Lyon, Marseille, Strasbourg, Toulouse Routes dropped and frequencies reduced. Details by route: TBA

The money behind it

  • September 29, 2026: Volotea filed for preconcurso de acreedores, Spain’s pre-insolvency protection. It lets the airline negotiate with creditors while it keeps flying.
  • December 2026: the target for finishing those talks, according to MiGFlug’s report.
  • Fleet: down by as many as 14 aircraft, close to a third of capacity, FlightGlobal reported.
  • Jobs: about 50 positions to go at the Barcelona head office, per MiGFlug. Crew and base staffing numbers: TBA.
  • Debt: Air Journal puts it at about €500 million. MiGFlug cites roughly €356 million of earlier debt, plus an estimated €150 million fuel hit since March.
  • Owners: Greek carrier Aegean is already a shareholder. Air Journal says a takeover by Aegean is being explored. Nothing is confirmed.

Flights that remain on sale are operating normally, and existing tickets stay valid.

What it means for non-revs

  • Fewer seats out of French regional airports this winter. Lille, Bordeaux and Brest lose the most. Volotea’s displaced customers will rebook onto whoever else flies from those airports, so expect fuller loads on the remaining sun and city routes.
  • Check that your flight still exists. If you were counting on a Volotea leg between November and February, look it up again before you plan around it. From Rodez, only Paris remains after October 5.
  • Don’t build a trip on one Volotea flight. Many of its routes run only a few times a week. If you miss the flight or it goes, the next one may be days away. Keep a rail or other-carrier backup, especially for positioning to a long-haul.
  • Be careful with prepaid interline tickets. The airline is in creditor protection with talks due to run to December. If you buy a ZED or ID fare on Volotea, first confirm your own airline has an agreement with it, and ask how refunds work if the flight is cancelled.
  • Volotea and contract staff at French bases: a base in hibernation usually means less flying for crews based there. The airline has not published crew numbers (TBA).
  • Watch Aegean. If a takeover does happen, pass and interline arrangements could change. Nothing has been announced.
