October 4, 2026 — Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Balmoral has left Southampton on a 71-night Mediterranean voyage that returns to the UK on December 10.

Balmoral sailed on September 30, Cruise Industry News reports. The voyage is built from shorter segments of eight to 11 nights and visits 39 destinations in Southern Europe, North Africa and the Atlantic islands. Countries on the route include Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Malta, Montenegro, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Egypt.

Highlights

  • Overnight stays: Alicante, Kotor, Heraklion, Istanbul and Funchal (Madeira)
  • Two-day calls: Piraeus (Athens) and Thessaloniki
  • Smaller ports: Melilla, Propriano (Corsica), Mytilene, Trapani and Marmaris
  • Canary Islands: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Arrecife (Lanzarote) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
  • Malta: two visits

Balmoral carries 1,340 guests and measures 43,537 tons. In 2027 the ship will also sail from Piraeus, Alicante and Málaga to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands (dates TBA).

What it means for airline travelers

  • Segments may suit a shorter trip. The report says the voyage combines eight- to 11-night segments. It does not say which can be booked on their own, so ask Fred. Olsen or a travel agent.
  • Southampton is easiest from London. London Heathrow (LHR) has the most transatlantic flights; Southampton Airport (SOU) is closer but mostly serves short-haul routes. Arrive a day early if flying standby.
  • The 2027 fly-cruises matter more for nonrevs. Sailings from Piraeus (ATH), Alicante (ALC) and Málaga (AGP) start and end at airports with heavy leisure traffic. Check loads for your dates before committing.
  • Interline rates: The report does not mention travel-industry rates.
