October 4, 2026 — Update to our October 3 story. Nottingham’s trams are running again after the GMB strike ended, with no further dates planned. Two Chiltern Railways strike days are set for October 10 and 17, and three TransPennine Express Sunday strikes remain.

The dates

Date Operator and union Status
From Sun, Oct 4 Nottingham trams (NET), GMB Strike over. Normal service resumed October 4. No further action planned.
Sat, Oct 10 and Sat, Oct 17 Chiltern Railways, RMT Two 24-hour strikes called. Chiltern expects to run the vast majority of services.
Sun, Oct 11, 18 and 25 TransPennine Express conductors, RMT Still on. Limited service, no replacement buses.

National Rail says no nationwide industrial action is announced. We found no airport, Border Force or Eurostar strike dates.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Manchester Airport: TransPennine Express serves the airport. On October 11, 18 and 25, check before you travel and use another operator or a coach if your train is not running.
  • Chiltern routes: London Marylebone to Oxford and Birmingham should mostly run on October 10 and 17, but check the day before.
  • Refunds: keep your ticket. Delay compensation applies on strike days, and NET is refunding contactless taps made on its strike days.
  • London: no change to how you reach Heathrow or Gatwick.
